'World-wide studies (Herz & Sperling, 2004) showed that providing one extra year (than average) of education boosts eventual wages up to 20%, and in case of secondary education, up to 25%. A study of the World Bank (Dollar & Gatti, 1999) showed that the tempo of economic growth in a country depends on the share of women with secondary education.
Significant gains in terms of gender equality can only be made at the secondary-school level. Girls become more empowered and self-confident as they acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes (UNICEF report, 2005).
Presently, Books Open The World, with the grant from the Nando Peretti Foundation, supports secondary education of 14 girls.
